Really can't say Kim. This is the 3rd year i have had to help save the babies. The first 2 seasons she killed all the chicks. 3rd season we still were not sure the hen was to blame because he had a mixed aviary. I managed to save 2 babies that year, 1 chick from each clutch. Last year we took the eggs just before hatch & saved all chicks from both clutches. She doubled clutched. So 7 chicks all have a home. Now it's these 4 little ones & most likely another clutch will hatch before i have weaned this lot. So for now i am pretty much grounded. 2 hourly feeds, 10 feeds per 24 hours.
We don't have any history on this hen she was found & not claimed. We are starting to wonder whether or not she was released because she killed her chicks. Not a nice thought though.
