Sun Conures have a terrible reputation for being extremely noisy. A lot of people often say that's just them but most sunnies are only this noisy if they're bored, lonely or unhappy, but there can be the occasional loud sunnie.
They will also make great guard dogs. Most of their loudest moments usually occur when they see someone pull up the drive, walk past, knock on the door or enter the home. The have a need to announce people. This is something you can't stop but if you want to tone it down a little don't place them near windows or doors where they can see everything & everyone.
The sun conure is not the loudest conure. The Patagonian is louder than the sunnie. For sunnies it is not so much the loudness of the scream but the pitch of the scream that makes them sound as loud as they do.
Generally a sun conure is happy to play around on a decent sized play gym with toys but still needs your time. They're very playful, cuddly & love human interaction. They're commonly known to as the 'velcro bird' because they will do anything to sit & play on you all day.
They like to keep themselves & their beaks busy so they need strong play gyms, cages & toys. They’re capable of destroying just about anything. They are also demanding & can be loud if they feel they’re not getting the attention they need.
